Embracing Emotions and Scripture

As we approach the threshold of a new year, it is an opportune time to reflect on our lives, our emotions, and the person we aspire to become. The journey towards self-discovery is a path that often meanders through a landscape of diverse emotions. From the depths of despair to the heights of exhilaration, God has designed us to experience the full spectrum of human emotions.

However, society often nudges us towards suppressing our true feelings, thoughts, words, and actions for fear of offending others or damaging our social reputation. The pressure to conform can lead to a disconnect between who we truly are and a version of ourselves we present to the world. Finding balance on the continuum between selfish oriented and others oriented can be exhausting. Yet, by delving into Scripture, we can discover the guidance and wisdom needed to respond to life's challenges in a healthy and mature manner.

The Bible presents us with narratives of individuals who embraced their emotions and expressed themselves honestly before God. In exploring these narratives, we realize that our emotions are not something to be feared or hidden but rather acknowledged and navigated with biblical principles. God created us as emotional beings, and through Scripture, we are guided towards embracing and managing our emotions in a way that aligns with His will.

Authenticity is not synonymous with impulsive or reckless behavior. Rather, it involves understanding our emotions, processing them through prayer, and seeking the wisdom Scripture provides. It requires us to cultivate self-awareness and discern when and how to express our feelings, always mindful of the impact on others.

In the new year, let us make a commitment to discover the authentic versions of ourselves, allowing our emotions to coexist with a genuine faith. Let us engage in meaningful conversations, both with ourselves and with others, about the importance of emotional health and the role Scripture plays in our lives. Through dialogue and reflection, we can break free from the chains of societal expectations and foster an environment where vulnerability is celebrated.

As we embark on this journey of self-discovery, let us remember that authenticity is not a destination, but an ongoing process. It requires us to be attentive to our emotions, to seek guidance from Scripture, and to move forward with integrity and grace. May the new year be a period of growth, where we embrace our emotions, express ourselves honestly, and discover the transformative power of living as our authentic selves in the light of God's truth. I hope to see you January 27 at our women’s event, Discover the Authentic You.
