winter
embrace a season of rest
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." Matthew 11:28
Scripture encourages us to find rest in presence of Christ. It reminds us to cast our burdens and take hold of peace. I see the concept of rest reflected in the season of winter.
The dormant months of winter invite us to match the rhythms of nature. Just as nature seems to rest during winter, we can find winter as a time to rest - to give up the quick pace of life and embrace tranquility the season offers. It is a time to settle ourselves in snuggly blankets with a mug of tea (optional) and the Word of God. In doing so we will find soul refreshing rest in Jesus.
Jesus invites those who are tired and overwhelmed to come to Him for rest. His words offer solace and relief. He extends an invitation to all who are weary or burdened. Then, He assures us that He can provide comfort and peace during our struggles and weariness. This is a message of deep compassion that offers spiritual and emotional rest, the kind of rest that can only be found in Christ.
Matthew 11:28 is a call to come to Jesus and find relief in Him. It is a reminder that His comforting presence is available to all who need it. It beckons us to approach Jesus as we are, with our burdens and exhaustion, to find rest and refreshment in His loving embrace.
Be encouraged this winter to give yourself the gift of rest and rejuvenate your spirit. Linger in quiet moments, allow stillness to envelop you. Seek healing and renewal in Christ, in prayer, reading and meditating on scripture, and in the warmth of a mug of tea. Be kind to you. Embrace a season of rest.
